During his early twenties Matt had the privilege of living in the UK for three years, most notably in Devon. During this time he studied the anatomy of horses in exacting detail, going so far as to dissecting horses himself to see their internal bone and muscle structure. Inspired by the renowned horse painter Edward Munnings, Matt was commissioned to paint artworks depicting equestrian culture from point-to-point meetings, polo matches, dressage, fox hunting and horse racing, including creating a portrait of the Royal Guard Polo team. While in the UK Matt’s interest was recording horses within traditional British culture. He doesn’t personally approve of blood sports.
